Today marks the loss of one of Hollywood’s greats as we sadly report that John Singleton will be taken off life support today after suffering a stroke that put him in a coma just over a week ago. “It is with heavy hearts we announce that our beloved son, father and friend, John Daniel Singleton will be taken off life support today. This was an agonizing decision, one that our family made, over a number of days, with the careful counsel of John’s doctors,” the family said in a statement, according to TMZ. 

John’s family detailed further how the beloved director “quietly struggled with hypertension,” a form of high blood pressure that affects 40% of African American men and women. The statement urged everyone to learn more about the symptoms and how to recognize if you too have the condition.
